Bass-baritone NICO WOUTERSE, since many years established in the opera-business, is hailed by the press as a “master of his voice of great power and wonderful colors” and his “overwhelming, captivating stage presence”.

He gave his opera-debut at the Theater Trier, where he also was emember of the ensemble for 1 season, followed up by an engagement in the Ensemble of the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau.

Guest commitments led him - among others - to the Teatr Wielki Warszawa, the Latvjas Nacionálá Opera Riga, the Opera Zuid, the Opéra Royal Wallonie de Liège; to the Oper Köln; the Staatstheater Oldenburg, the Nationaltheater Weimar; the Staatstheater Cottbus, the Staatstheater Mainz, the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, the Theater Pforzheim, the Festival Burg Ehrenbreitstein
and the Festival Oper Schenkenberg / CH.

Since the 2016/17 season, Nico Wouterse is a frequent guest at the Theater Koblenz, where he recently gave his debuts in the title part of Wagner's DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER;as FRANK HUBBARD in J. Adam's "Dr. Atomic", MEPHISTOFELES in Spohr’s "Faust" and as Mr. GEDGE in Britten’s “Albert Herring”; and where he also appeared as ESCAMILLO in Bizet’s “Carmen”; HARASHTA in Janáček’s “Prihody Lisky Bystrousky”; WOTAN in “Rheingold”; FIGARO in Mozart’s "Le Nozze di Figaro"; SIR HUMPHREY DAVENAUT in Marschner’s “Der Vampyr”; WILLIAM in Ph. Glass’ “The Fall of the House of Usher”;  DREIEINIGKEITSMOSES in Weill’s “Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny”; SHAUNARD in Puccini’s “La Bohème” and as  SCARPIA.

Commitments of the 2019/20 season, in which he recently was a celebrated LEPORELLO in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Mozartfestivaö Schwetzingen, include also LA BÊTE in Ph. Glass “La Belle & La Bête”CELIO in Prokofiev’s “L’Amour des trois Oranges” in stage direction of Michiel Dijkema and  LEPORELLO, all at Theater Koblenz.

Moreover, his repertoire includes the parts of  WARLAAM in Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov”; KASPAR in Weber’s “Der Freischütz”; L’ÉVÊQUE DES BLOIS in Massenet’s “Esclarmonde”; OCTAVIO PICCOLOMINI in Weinberger’s “Wallenstein”; the Wagner roles of ALBERICH in the complete “Ring der Nibelungen”and KLINGSOR in “Parsifal”; as well as the Verdi-parts of  RAMFIS in “Aida”, BANQUO in “Macbeth”, PADRE GUARDIANO in “La Forza del Destino”and SPARAFUCILE in “Rigoletto”.

Besides opera, Nico Wouterse also is a sought after interpreter for Oratorio Concerts. His repertoire in this genre includes numerous works by Händel, Haydn, Mozart, Elgar orVerdi; to name only a few.

Nico Wouterse first studied saxophone with Adri van Velzen at the Conservatory Amsterdam, before he took up his studies for voice with Mya Besselink at the Conservatory Maastricht. He completed his musical education in Masterclasses with Jean-Piere Blivet, Margreet Honig, Leo van Oostrom and Semjn Skigin and Daniel-Lewis Williams, who also is his recent voice-coach.

In 2012, Nico Wouterse founded “Trèves Punkt Reedquintet” – the first reed quintet in Germany – where he not only plays the saxophone, but also bears the responsibility for the arrangements.
